Staying Confident & Safe Online: A Free Seminar for Older Adults | Presented by Zeke Segerstrom | Thursday February 12 at 1pm | RSVP
Colonial Club is introducing Zeke Segerstrom, who grew up right here in Dane County. Zeke has always been passionate about helping neighbors stay safe and connected, from his early days organizing neighborhood improvement projects to now running a tech company focused on internet safety. After seeing firsthand how online scams and security issues were affecting people in our community, Zeke partnered with tech expert Dylan Bannon to create solutions that work for everyone, regardless of tech experience. Today he's here to share practical tips to help you navigate the internet safely and confidently.
Whether we're connecting with loved ones, managing appointments and finances, shopping, or enjoying our favorite hobbies, the internet has become an essential part of everyone's every day life. Just like in real life, it's important to know how to keep ourselves safe online. We'll focus on phishing, the most common type of online scam. The goal of a phishing scam is to get access to you personal information: passwords, social security information, answers to security questions. Sophisticated attacks camouflage themselves as trusted websites and urge victims to act quickly with a variety of socially-engineered ploys.
Fortunately, once we learn to recognize these attacks, it is relatively simple to avoid them. We'll learn how to identify these scams, strategies to protect our personal information, and what to do when something feels off. Even better, we will learn how to do it without needing any previous technical knowledge or special skills. We invite you to a relaxed, welcoming session where you can ask questions, learn at your comfort level, and walk away feeling better equipped to enjoy the internet safely.

You’ll explore events and perspectives that are often overlooked - stories that are unusual, unexpected, and deeply fascinating. You’ll fly alongside the all-women Soviet aviation regiment known as the Night Witches as they carried out daring nighttime attacks. You’ll examine the staggering human cost of the war, including the Soviet Union’s loss of approximately 25 million lives and the devastating impact on Poland, which lost about 17% of its population. You’ll also discover how wartime innovation shaped everyday life, giving rise to inventions still used today, such as microwave ovens, duct tape, and super glue. You’ll learn about the only battle fought between the United States and Japan on U.S. soil, test your knowledge by matching WWII-era military slang, and uncover which well-known celebrities served in the military - and what roles they played. This engaging four-part series offers a broad and compelling look at the events, lives, battles, and lasting consequences of a global war, inviting you to see World War II from fresh and unexpected angles.
